Meet Ananthapuram Anil Kumar the man responsible for building homes for 68000 birds
Ananthapuram Anil Kumar, a social activist hailing from Ananthapuram, Andhra Pradesh, has been making waves with his innovative project aimed at boosting the population of sparrows in the town. Through his initiative, the Home for Birds project, Kumar and his team have successfully installed over 68,000 man-made nests in Ananthapuram town, made of natural coir sourced from rural women in Alleppey and Kanyakumari.
The project, which began 16 months ago, has already brought about remarkable results, with over 150,000 sparrows added to the town through the project. Every day, Kumar has been distributing nests free of cost from his house in the morning for the last 16 months, making it easy for anyone interested in contributing to the cause to do so.
Anil Kumar’s tireless work and dedication to his project have earned him a spot in the Harvard World Records for Ananthapuram, as the town has become the only one in the world with over 58,000 man-made nests made of natural coir. The project has not only been beneficial to the sparrow population but has also created job opportunities for rural women who are involved in making the nests.
Kumar’s project has inspired many in the town to take up similar initiatives to create a more sustainable environment for birds. Speaking about his project, Kumar stated, “I have always been passionate about birds, and I noticed that the sparrow population was declining in our town. I wanted to do something to bring them back, and that’s how the Home for Birds project was born. We started small, but now we have hundreds of people contributing to the cause. I’m thrilled to see the results of our efforts, and I hope that more people will join us in our mission to create a better world for birds.”
The success of Kumar’s project has been a result of his hard work and dedication, and his efforts have made a significant difference in the town. With initiatives like the Home for Birds project, we can all play our part in creating a more sustainable world for the birds and other animals that share our planet. Kumar’s project serves as a reminder of the impact that one person can have when they are committed to a cause.
