On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review of the Bhupendra Patel government, which has been in power for three months. After watching the India-Australia test match, Modi met with CM Bhupendra Patel and state BJP President C R Paatil at Raj Bhavan to discuss the working of the new government. During the closed-door meeting, Modi reviewed various initiatives launched by the government in the 100 days since its inception and ongoing development works. Bhupendra Patel was elected CM for the second term in December 2022 after the BJP won a record-setting 156 seats in the 182-seat Assembly.
Modi also held talks with Paatil and discussed organizational changes ahead of the 2024 General Elections. Additionally, the PM held another meeting with senior Gujarat officials, including Chief Secretary Raj Kumar and Chief Principal Secretary to the CM K Kailashnathan, to review the development of various projects such as Metro phase-2, Sabarmati Ashram Redevelopment, and others. He also provided guidance about G-20 events scheduled to be held in Gujarat during the year.
Sources suggest that there were no discussions about cabinet expansion or appointments in boards and corporations during the meetings, as Modi focused solely on the development projects of the state government.
In a separate event, former Gujarat CM Shankarsinh Vaghela called on Modi at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday night. The meeting lasted for over 15 minutes, and Vaghela invited the PM to his grandson’s wedding. They reminisced about their time together in the BJP for more than 30 years before Vaghela launched his own political outfit, RJP. Vaghela later joined Congress and quit the party in 2017.
